At Blossom Fields, their Happiness Programme smart-projector has earned a special place in everyone’s hearts…and a new name. Residents lovingly call him “Smiley,” because every time he’s switched on, smiles soon follow. Whether it’s a lively quiz, a calming Tai Chi session, or painting from the comfort of bed, Smiley is more than technology – he’s a friend who helps make every day brighter.
We spoke to Maggie Dance, Care Manager at the Allegra Care home, Blossom Fields.
“Smiley has become part of the Blossom Fields family since coming to stay with us a few months ago.
Residents and families are loving the variety of games and activities he brings them.
He is so easy to use and great to move around the home. From delivering tabletop group activities to supporting someone who is being cared for in their bed, Smiley has become a great addition with supporting Rose our amazing activities lead to provide real meaningful personalised activities to our residents at Blossom Fields.
Smiley is integrated into the household model of care at Blossom Fields by enabling residents to choose which activity they would like to have a go at. We have found we have some budding artists, great quizzers and have a lively bunch of active residents joining the Tai Chi sessions.”
Activities co-ordinator, Rose added
“From my side, I think it’s fantastic. The various games keep our residents focused and engaged, or happy and relaxed, depending on the required outcome. There is something for everyone.”

The residents themselves had wonderful things to say about their new companion:
Pat I: “It’s just brilliant! I come to every activity involving Smiley. I have no favourite game, but I did think the butterflies were amazing.”
Brenda: “I love smashing the coloured balloons!” (Holi Colours)
Iris: “I found the horse-racing interesting. The movement is good and it’s competitive.”
